Our Clients’ Needs
There was a need to move away from the previous hospital’s multi-occupied wards, towards a new facility that would incorporate single en-suite rooms providing privacy and dignity for patients and a much more integrated approach to healthcare and community services in the northwest of Perthshire.
MCS’s Approach
To deliver the new multi disciplinary facility MCS worked closely with all the service providers in order to fully understand their requirements. We then utilised our property expertise and adopted an innovative approach to find and secure a site close to the town centre and gain planning consent.
Strong organisation ability and project management skills were required to bring together and orchestrate all of the professional disciplines.
Our Solution
MCS worked with stakeholders to deliver outstanding facilities at an affordable cost. Throughout the project we were able to foster a spirit of cooperation, enabling us to deliver premises that create a soothing environment for patients and staff.
The centre benefits from:
- Contemporary design that embraces its natural environment.
- A light and bright feel, which enhances the wellbeing of patients and staff.
- Large consultancy rooms that are both functional and flexible.
- Accessible walkways that allow good patient flow around the community hospital.
- An innovative development, it integrates a GP practice, hospital, and facilities for care for the elderly.
- Its state-of-the-art facilities have been designed to be responsive to future requirements.
- Close to the town centre, and next to the railway station, the Community Hospital is easily accessible. It is therefore ideal for the urban and rural communities it serves.
- Intimate therapy gardens offer a sense of space and promote a feeling of wellbeing that is appreciated by both patients and staff.
“Having the doctors in the new, larger GP surgery on the same site as well as the social services and the ambulances will provide a very wide range of services on the one site. I feel very privileged to have been involved with the commissioning group throughout this project.”
Mike Cheesewright,
Chairman of Pitlochry & Moulin Community Council
Health Outcomes
A model for communities across Scotland, The Pitlochry Community Hospital has significantly improved healthcare provision:
Christine Schmitt- Mackinnon, secretary of The Friends of Irvine Memorial Hospital said, “When people asked what was wrong with the hospital we had, my response was always that we need a 21st century hospital for 21st century patients and all those who care for them – and certainly we have it now.”
The new facility has generated a very favourable response:
“We had a vision to replace our ageing Victorian Hospital with a fully integrated health facility that would enhance our health services and deliver a much better experience for both patients and staff. Working together with Medical Centres Scotland, we have now been able to realise this vision of a new state-of-the-art healthcare facility for the people of Highland Perthshire which is fit for the 21st century”
Jim McGuinness, Service Manager, Community Hospitals and Psychiatry of Old Age, NHS Tayside
